Cosmic Rage

Cosmic Rage - Dark Constellations, is an experimental film composed by hand drawn animation and archival footage that explores dance and music as forms of resistance, powers of liberation and cosmic communion. Using as base Maya Deren's book on Haitian vodou, her Haiti footage and Alejo Carpentier's book ‘A Kingdom of This World’ on the Haitian Revolution, the piece explores myth, freedom and how the communicative power of the body has been instrumental to survival and emancipation, particularly in political circumstances in which subjects are not allowed to use words, such as historical slavery, colonization and totalitarian regimes. In this way dance/music can be experienced as a method of claiming human rights and freedom but also as an exploration of how the human is integrated in the cosmos. The piece has 6 parts: Part 1, the revolutionary spirits of Haitian Petro vodou, Ezili Dantor's invocation. Part 2, ancient pre-Colombian mythology and colonisation. Part 3, Francois Mackandal - the mythical 1700’s Maroon Haitian proto-revolutionary expert in poison and metamorphosis. Part 4, The Crossroads - the gates between the earth and the cosmic. Part 5, Damballah the serpent spirit – primordial creator of life. Part 6, Trance and Cosmic Communion.
