Into the Wild

Images, harvested on a farm in Mount Forest, Canada, captured with a hand-cranked Bolex, on film material that is made for sound only. Processed in buckets, in shimmering red light down by the old stables. A glimpse through the cracks, somebody is walking in the meadow, trees trembling in the wind, flowers, grass. A world that only film can see, a material flow emerging from the coupling of camera, celluloid, silver salts, chemicals, light particles and the hand of the filmmaker. The film was entirely processed by hand and chemically treated: overexposed images were brought back to life with bleach, other images were solarized and reversed. Bilder, geerntet auf einer Farm in Mount Forest, Kanada. Eingefangen mit einer Bolex, ohne Strom, auf Filmmaterial das nur für Ton gemacht ist. Entwickelt in Eimern, in schimmerndem Rotlicht wo früher der Stall war. Ein Blick durch die Holzbretter, jemand streift durch die Wiese, im Wind wehende Bäume, Gräser, Blumen. Eine Welt wie sie nur Film sehen kann. Ein materieller Strom, der aus der Koppelung von Kameraapparat, Zelluloid, Silbersalzen, Lichtpartikeln und der Hand des Filmemachers entstanden ist. Der chemische Prozess spielt dabei eine besondere Rolle: Bilder wurden von einem überbelichteten Negativ in einem Bleichbad zurückgeholt, Filmstreifen wurden während der Entwicklung solarisiert oder mit Kurkumin und Walnüssen eingefärbt.
