Ross Blake - ‘Ages’ (official video)
From Ross Blake’s debut album Pretty en Rose – Original Soundtrack, comes the music video for its opening track Ages. A series of arresting and fantastical images confront the viewer; Rubrik’s shadow- guide tempts lady clay-face towards eternal waterfalls; the future of cats passed swirls in haunted frames while hot mirrored sky-fruit is mushed under Hi-Top scream; spaghetti toe canal glitz joins a worry-faced sunbather under scattered crumbs of Lego and love. The film is a mesmerising shuffle of brightly coloured vignettes, each disconnected yet linked via ambiguous thematic threads - the mourning of lost pets, communication across an unfathomable void, lego... Everything is blended into a dreamy mix of Dadaesque imaginings, playful absurdity and vibrant melancholy that both counteracts and compliments the sombre ebb and flow of the music. Directed and produced on a micro-budget by the song’s composer, Blake shot and compiled each scene over a period of years, taking in locations as far reaching as The Azores, Berlin and Glenan Islands, not to mention many parts of London such as the surrounds of Blackwall Tunnel. The chosen backdrops each share a distinctive yet otherworldly quality which is enhanced by a synthesis of in-camera and digital effects. In parallel with his DIY ethic Blake enlisted friends and family to help realise his idiosyncratic visions, including his Mum in the leading role!
