Jury Announced for the 7th Istanbul International Experimental Film Festival

The 7th Istanbul International Experimental Film Festival, dedicated to boundary-pushing and innovative practices in experimental cinema, has announced this year’s jury. Bringing together practitioners from diverse disciplines and international backgrounds, the jury reflects the festival’s multilayered and exploratory approach.

Nurşen Bakır
A prominent figure in documentary and experimental cinema, Bakır’s work spans over three decades, engaging with themes of memory, displacement, and social issues. She has been a lecturer at Istanbul Bilgi University since 2005 and is an active member of the Sine-Yol collective.

S. Buse Yıldırım
Working at the intersection of visual anthropology, archives, and oral history, Yıldırım combines artistic and curatorial practices. She is the founder of Kundura Hafıza and Artistic Director of Beykoz Kundura, where she develops long-term projects on memory and place.

Deniz Tortum
An artist working across film and immersive media, Tortum has presented his work at major international festivals. Following his research at MIT, he continues to explore new forms and futures of cinema.

Wickham Catesby Flannagan
Drawing on psychoanalytic theory and ethnographic film, Flannagan’s practice bridges experimental and narrative forms. He currently teaches at Bilkent University, focusing on themes of displacement, isolation, and foreignness.

Aslı Kobaner
Composer, improviser, and sound researcher Kobaner works across sound art, contemporary music, and gender studies. Her interdisciplinary practice engages with experimental sonic forms and has been presented internationally.

With this dynamic and interdisciplinary jury, the festival promises a compelling edition that highlights the evolving landscape of experimental cinema.
