Leighton Pierce
Pierce takes a holistic approach to video making and video installations embracing all aesthetic/technical aspects as an entangled web of symbiotic relationships. His work has been widely screened at over 500 film festivals with numerous awards and accolades. His major multi-channel video installations, designed to de-objectify the video viewing experience, have been presented at the Sundance and Ann Arbor Film Festivals, the Kochi (India) Biennial in 2016, the University of Iowa Museum of Art,and Sheldon Museum of Art; his work has been screened at museums including the Whitney Biennial, Pompidou Museum, and MOMA. He is a recipient of grants from Creative Capital, the NEA, the Guggenheim Foundation, and the Rockefeller Foundation and has major retrospectives around the world.
He has been a faculty member and leader in academia at four distinguished institutions: University of Iowa, Pratt Institute , CalArts, and currently at Yale where he continues to focus on his primary areas of interest -- explorations of consciousness and cognition through his broad practices of videomaking and teaching.
